PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
Lisanne M. Butterfield is one of the founding members of Carr Butterfield, LLP, a boutique law firm that primarily services financial service providers and other licensed professionals. Ms. Butterfield manages all aspects of the firm’s commercial litigation, dispute resolution, and employment transition practice. Most often, the firm serves as lead counsel in complex litigation matters involving business contracts and business torts between licensed professionals and closely held companies.
A significant part of Lisanne’s practice is also dedicated to counseling and advocating for financial advisers as they onboard new advisor representatives, formulate their exit strategies to form their own independent registered investment advisor firms, transition between firms, and litigate or arbitrate noncompete agreements, non-solicitation restrictions, trade secrets, and other employment related contract disputes.
With 30+ years of litigation experience, Lisanne has practiced extensively in civil matters in state and federal courts and arbitration forums nationwide. Lisanne’s practice also includes negotiation and resolution of shareholder and partnership disputes, and representation of clients in all phases of trial and arbitration proceedings, as well as regulatory, administrative, and disciplinary proceedings before the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA), and state regulatory agencies.
Lisanne is admitted to practice law in the states of Montana, New York, Oregon, and Washington. She also serves on several state and local bar committees, and the boards of various nonprofit organizations. In her free time, she feeds her passions for travel, cooking, floral design, hiking, paddling, skiing, and reading nonfiction.
